"Thank you for your e-mail of 22 September regarding our Stock Monthly Investment Plan (SMIP) promotional offer.

During 17 July to 31 December 2008, new or existing HSBC investment customers who set up a new SMIP can enjoy a 6-month brokerage fee waiver. This brokerage waiver is only applicable to SMIP transactions with a monthly investment contribution of under HK$10,000 per stock. In other words, there will be no service charge at all for eligible SMIP transactions performed in the first six months.

From the seventh month and onwards, a standard brokerage fee of 0.25%, with a minimum brokerage fee of HK$50 per stock will be applied to all monthly investment contributions of the eligible SMIPs. Moreover, customers are required to keep their eligible SMIPs for the first 6 months. Otherwise the SMIP purchase transactions effected in the first six months will be subject to the standard brokerage fee and the full brokerage fee amount will be debited from customers' account.
